5 Minutes with Ellovi Creator: Kelly Winterhalter

Kelly Winterhalter started, Ellovi, her totally natural beauty line, after realizing that she wasn't happy with the other body butters that were out there on the market. She knew she could create something much better from pure and natural ingredients. Their first product was a highly effective body moisturizer made completely from plants. They called it Butter. It was designed to make your skin smooth, hydrated, and healthy. She explained to me, that your skin is like a sponge that absorbs lotions and creams right into your body, and given the lack of regulation in the industry, we should be very careful what we are putting on our skin. She assured me that you need not be cautious about putting Ellovi on your skin, because they purchase their ingredients from the best harvesters in Africa, South America, and the United States.

Erin Bleakley: What does your studio/packing center look like?
Kelly Winterhalter: Our headquarters is in Berkeley, California and consists of one big rectangular room. Shelves full of fresh raw ingredients line the walls, and there are hundreds of empty jars that are waiting to be filled on a nearby table.

EB: Did you come up with Ellovi alone, or did you have a team?

KW: My co-founder Ryan and I came up with Ellovi together. We make the perfect team because I’m experienced in the beauty industry and he is business-minded and tech savvy. The formula for Butter took me more than six months and hundreds of tries to perfect.

EB: What are you hoping Ellovi becomes in the next 5 years?
KW: By then we hope to have a large selection of natural skin care products available through retailers all over. We also hope to change the cosmetics industry for the better by providing people with products that are good for both their skin, and the planet.

EB: Do you manufacture your butter, or do you make them yourself?
KW: As new orders come in, we make Butter in small batches, fill the jars, and ship the product. This ensures quality and maximum freshness.

EB: How have you differentiate your body butter from the other products on the market?
KW: It works. Your skin will be noticeably softer and healthier after using Ellovi Butter, even days later. The ingredients in Butter are actually good for you. We dont water it down with cheap fillers and synthetic chemicals. Each is there to provide a specific benefit to your skin, including reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reversing skin damage, protecting skin from free radicals.  

EB: Do you sell your things online only, or is it in stores as well?

EB: What is your favorite social media platform?
KW: Twitter! It is an excellent conversation hub that has allowed me to connect with like-minded people from all over the world.
